Welcome to Stagewise Theatre School
Bedford-based, Stagewise Theatre School was created in 1994 to give students the opportunity to experience drama without the pressure of the school curriculum. It just so happened that it was a lot of fun too!!
Stagewise is different from other stage schools. We are completely independent and aren't part of a national franchise. Here, the emphasis is on drama technique and performance. That's it. We're unpretentious and students enjoy focusing purely on drama and skills.
We work from scripts; we devise; sometimes we use masks and often we look at themes - some of them serious and some of them a bit silly! Everything from issues students can relate to through to Greek myths, superheroes and villains! We look at lots of theatre styles from 'physical theatre' to 'naturalistic theatre' and at least once a year we produce a showcase performance which gives everyone a chance to demonstrate what they've learnt to family and friends.
And while Stagewise is fun, what we do also compliments the drama they learn in school as teachers are all qualified in their specialisms. We'd love you to come along and see what it's like to be a Stagewiser. Hear it from the students themselves; it's dramatically different!
Best wishes,
Barry Thompson, Artistic Director MA (Ed) PGDip LLAM
